Poet C. D. Wright

CD Wright is reading at the Poetry Center here on Thursday night.
In conjunction with the reading, the Poetry Center had a group discussion last night that was very good and they have posted some information about Wright on their blog http://wordplay.sites.arizona.edu/
If you follow the links in the short post you can:
see and hear Wright read one of her poems, find others too.
Read Wright’s poem “FLAME” and see the activities suggested to go with that poem.
And find out more about the poet.  I enjoyed my trip around the links.
I also had a dandy time looking closely at the poem FLAME and the word choice.  Each word is brilliantly selected.  Look at how she uses plosives and the “th” sound all requiring expulsion of breath and the pause to breath in for the next set of words.  Extremely clever.
There is a reason that CD Wright won one of the MacArthur grants, she is brilliant.

Keep your dictionary handy when reading her poetry, I guarantee you’ll expand your vocabulary.
